Donate Used -OLD WINGS & OLD Reserves – KEEN Footware & Cloudbase Foundation team up

Attention Pilots..We need your help!
Donate your Used Wings and Old Reserves to Help Communities where we Fly!!!!!
KEEN Footwear and the Cloudbase Foundation are teaming up to Repurpose with a Purpose. We are looking for used wing donations that will be sewn to make bags. These bags will be sold at KEEN Festivals nationwide with all monies collected going directly to the Cloudbase Foundation’s projects. So whatever the bag sells for, Cloudbase will be given!
The primary objectives of the Cloudbase Foundation are to improve the health, education and general living conditions in communities where hang gliding and paragliding activities take place.
We know it is often hard to part with old wings as they cost a lot to purchase and we generally think there will be some way to use them again. This opportunity is a win-win as you will get a write-off that will help you clear up storage space as well.
If you donate you will be taking part in a program that:
1. Helps Communities in Need
2. Keeps a Huge Amount of Nylon out of Landfills and Your Garage
3. Raises Awareness for Hang Gliding and Paragliding, and the Great Projects the Cloudbase Foundation is Actively Encouraging
4. Provides a Charitable Donation Receipt to the Donor for a Wing that is Collecting Dust
5. KEEN Will Cover the Cost of Shipping (packaging excluded) the Wing Via Fedex

Here is how you send it:
Contact Ryan Sofich at Cloudbase@keenfootwear.com. He will send you back the address where to ship and the Fedex account to use. When you are filling in the shipping information at Fedex please include CBFequipment@gmail.comso that a tax receipt can be sent. Please also email CBFequipment@gmail.com with a list of what you sent, what the value would be if sold on open market, and your address to send the tax receipt.
We are not using the risers or the lines so if you would like to keep either, please do. If you have a newer wing that would be a great beginner glider and still has life in it please email CBFequipment@gmail.com first.
If you need further assistance email Nick Greece at nicogotz@yahoo.com.

Slap Happy Saturday!

I saw a lot of grinning pilots after we landed at the beach today……..

We took a full Eagle van plus a truck up to EJ Bowl.  There were a lot of familiar faces, Ron, Bob, OJ, Cracka, Lee, Cort, Jackson, Neil, Chris, Peaches, Marge, Bart, another Neil, and a visiting pilot Greg.  Cycles were coming in from the South East 5-10 at launch.  It was on when we got there and most everybody got there gear going and into the air pretty quickly.  Some pilots went west toward Alternator others opted to beat it into the wind going East to R&R.   After boating around for a bit above launch I opted to head to R&R.   Several pilots were already established and climbing quickly there.  There was abundant lift with some spicy edges.  As Cracka would say “It’s on like donkey kong!”.   Managed about 4600ft at R&R and headed over to thermal factory.  Smooth glide over and then seemed to be some mixing winds over thermal factory.   Some strong climbs.  It was fun to gaggle up with friends and climb out.  Tried pushing East a few times but never committed to it.  Bounced around out front and kept fading back to the thermal factory and the back ridge (thermal drift was fast).  Several people made it West to Alternator and then went East down range.  A few made it back and landed at the beach.   I maxed out my altitude and decided to head for the beach.  I knew the AVP was in town at West Beach so headed toward the wharf.  A little too spicy for pic’s in the mountains so here are a few from the smooth buoyant glide out looking at the volleyball tournament and the cruise ship.

1 hour 15 minutes
Max up 820fpm
Max down 600fpm

Max alt 4852ft

It’s good to be alive!  Let’s do it again tomorrow.

SBSA semi-annual Big Sur Fall camping and flying trip

Hello Pilots,

The Semi-annual SBSA Big Sur Fall Flying trip is coming up soon (Oct. 18th -20th) so dust off that camping gear and get ready to fly the scenic Big Sur coastline. We’ve planned it on a full moon weekend which always brings out the wild side around the campsite!  Don’t miss out!!
We will be doing a potluck on Saturday night so plan to prepare a little extra if you wish to participate.
We have two group campsites at the Plaskett Creek campgrounds.  More details here.
While there is plenty of room for camping and socializing….the parking is limited so please start working with friends or contact other pilots and carpool.  There’s an added cost incentive for this as well. It will be the same as last year, $25 per car for 2 nights or $15 per car for one night.  Cheaper by the carload.
If you play an instrument, bring it for the nightly jam session.
Cheers,
-Jon Blake

Spot landing contest Thursday at Elings

Got skills? Let’s see ’em!

We will be having a spot landing contest at Eling’s flight park (training hill) starting at 4:30pm on this Thursday, Sept. 12th.

Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy so bring your family and friends. Plan is to have a little happy hour sunset watching following the contest.  Come on out and try your spot landing skills.  We will have some prizes to give away for those that come the closet to the cone.  Markers will be provided.

Some simple rules:
It’s where your feet touch the ground that marks your landing
You must land on your feet
No drinking and flying

We will start at 4:30pm and end around 6pm (if students are still flying, please give them priority and stay out of their way)

Hope to see you out there this Thursday!

Cheers,
-Jon
